There is much more flexibility in the Sims 2 than the Sims 1. Firstly the look is much more appealing. It is more 3D and realistic. But the major difference between Sims 2 and Sims 1 is that in Sims 2, the sims will actually age. They go through lifestages such as Baby, Toddler, Teen, Adult, Elder. And then they can continue the family line. In Sims 1 you create a sim and it is basically stuck in time.
Also you can build buldings with an unlimited number of floors, though the more there is, the slower it loads. There are also various other functions that it make it more realistic, such as the choice to WooHoo with another sim.
But the Sims 3 is coming out very soon, in June. So if I were you, I may wait a couple more months and purchase Sims 3 instead.
I can only build four stories.... then I can't even put a roof on.

How is the Sims 2 Different from the first Sims? It's way better!
No, it's not online.
The graphics are far better.
Much more things to do.
Yes, you can build three story houses, though I don't know if you need expansions for that.
I like Sims 2 better because there's much more options, it's more fun, and it's more detailed.
The Sims 2 has 100% better graphics then the The Sims.
You can build multiple stories on houses, and you can have the house on a porch, etc.
When you want to have kids you go through "Trying to have a baby" (your sims relax in a bed and try for a baby) Then once shes pregnant she gets bigger. Its a 3 day thing. Then the baby is born, then grows to a toddler, then a kid, then a teenager, and then adult, then an elder, and soon dies. It seems like real life.
You can buy expansion packs like The Sims, there is packs that let you have a dog/cat/hamster/bird, and another when you can have a car, and another when it snows/rains and turns fall/winter/summer/spring. And much much more, you can check them out on www.thesims2.com
There is a lot more clothes and options you can do with The Sims 2 then The Sims.
I could go on and on. But I think you would 100% love The Sims 2. Go for it! =]
Well, for starters, the graphics are better than the first sims. They are more 3D-ish and they have better clothes and hair. You can build three story houses and I think it gives you more options than the first sims. It's a lot more fun (in my opinion). In the sims 1, i think you only get one neighborhood to play in but in the sims 2 you get like 3 but you can make ur own too. You should buy it!
I have the Sims and the Sims 2. I thought the Sims was a really good game. Then they came out with the Sims2 so i tried that. After a little bit i played the original and couldn't stand it! The graphics and just everything about it was worse. But before you get the sims 2 they are coming out with the sims 3 soon
The Sims 2 uses true 3d graphics, where The Sims, didn't. As a result, TS2 requires more system resources to play the game well. It's not online - it's still a single player game. You have main neighborhoods and with expansions you can attach a different type of subneighborhood like downtown (Nightlife expansion pack), shopping district, college (university expansion), and vacation destination (Bon Voyage Expansion) to each of your main neighborhoods
Aside from that, game play is very similar to the first game, but the expansions and sim relationships are different.
For one, sims can now be born, grow up (baby, toddler, child, then teen), go to college (if you have the University expansion pack) as a young adult, get married, have kids of their own, grow old (and have grandkids), retire and die of old age.
Relationships are a big thing in TS2. Your sims have family (husband/wife, children, parents, brothers/sisters, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles etc) friends, enemies, best friends, BFF (Freetime Expansion pack), and pets (Pets Expansion Pack).
Just like the original game, the game play is very open with mini-games thrown in like group outings, dates, parties, private school admittance and more depending on your expansion packs.
There are many many more building tools in The Sims 2. Yes, you can build up to 4 story houses without using a cheat.
Because it's fully 3d, and the customization options are endless you can make your game uniquely your own. Fair warning - once you start to get custom content to put in your game, it becomes very addictive.
Make sure to not overload your game with more than your computer can handle. Take the system requirements for each game seriously - if your computer won't handle it, it will cause you problems down the road.
I usually choose to replace the default skins/eyes/makeup and get new hair and a few building items that I use a lot.
While The Sims 3 will be out this summer, the advantage to getting The Sims 2 now is price - you will be able to get all the expansion packs and the main game for CHEAP right now. If you still want to wait, I'm sure that a complete collection will be out after The Sims 3 has been released where you can likely get The Sims 2 and all it's expansions for one really sweet price.
well the graphics are way better in sims2 and in sims 2 it has easier control. ur sims have different houses and u need more expansion packs to get more stuff unless u download them on sim2.com in the exchange area. i personally think sims 2 is better. but in sims u can make a child live alon but with cheats on sims2 u can make teens and children die,get prego, cook, and have adult features....u can build 3 story houses u cant make clothes,i like it better becauxse i can move them easier and the building options plus the look on the game...hope this helps =)
There are so many things better in the sims 2. Yes, you can build a 10 story house if you want. (I haven't done this, but I heard that you can) There are more clothes, more objects, better building stuff and more options. In the Sims 2 there are different ages, there's infant, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and elder. Plus, the graphics are much better and there's more interactions with stuff. And in the sims 2 your sim is actually pregnant, instead of just having a baby appear. OH, and there's aliens, and when a man gets abducted he becomes pregnant. It's like a million times better.
My favorite change in particular is that there's more options in create-a-sim, you can practically customize everything, it's awesome.
And I forgot to mention that your sims have wants.
I would definately advise you to buy it.
it's way better than the sims, you get wants and fears, career rewards, genes, way better graphics and all this new awesome stuff. but the sims 3 is coming out in tow and a half months so i would just wait and get that!
The Sims 2 is A LOT better than the first Sims. For a start, the whole game is more detailed. You have aspirations, wants and fears where you have to fill your Sims' aspiration meters. There are a lot more clothes and hairstyles in make a sim, and you can customize every inch of their face to look like anybody you want. You can get weather with Sims 2 Seasons, cars with Sims 2 Nightlife and even universities. You might want to wait though, as the Sims 3 is coming out soon and that is a whole lot better too.
Well, there are many things that are different. Firstly, is the option to download custom hair, clothing, pets, bussineses, sims, and many more. You can even upload your own creations!
Another thing, is the aging. I normally start off my families with just 1 person, and guide them through a... legacy.
Baby Stage=2-3 Days
Toddler Stage=4 Days
Child Stage=8 Days
Teenager Stage=15 Days
Adult Stage=30 Days
Senior Stage= It varies. If you do good in life it gets longer, and worse in life it gets shorter.
There are many more families to play on.
Remember the Goth's? With Gunter and Cornelia and their youngest son (And only son) Mortimer?
Now Mortimer is an elder, falling in love with Nina Caliente. He was married to Bella Goth, and they had two children, Cassandra (Adult) and Alexander (Child) Bella was then abducted by aliens. (You can get men pregnant with aliens by doing this).
Cassandra is engaged to Don Lothario, who seems to be having an affair with the whole of Pleasentview.
Can you sort the family out?
There are many more ways to play, I hope you have a good time simming!
sims 2 is much much better! you can build ur houses to 4 stories if you like! but if i were u i would wait for sims 3 to be released- that is even better again!
In the sims 2 it is different because u can now make more than one story houses. You can make more realistic sims and if u have the stuff and expansion packs you can do more like make hotels, businesses, get pets, and get to go to college.
