Nah...it won't turn off your laptop.

And as for the downstairs computer, have someone reinstall windows xp on it or get it to a computer assistance shop or something. It looks like it's the machine's fault.
Try playing it on your laptop and if it keeps turning your computer off then just uninstall the game. As for your PC at the moment, go to control panel, Add/Remove Programmes and then uninstall the sims game. You could also try the Sims 2 :) Sims 3 is coming out soon too. Good luck :)SIMS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! !!!!! ! ! ! !! !?
So, I heard you like exclamation points.

Most XP machines are configured to automatically reboot anytime ther eis an error by default. You probably need to reinstall XP on that desktop.
you should check your setting, if your not moving your mouse maybe your pc is going into hibernation and it is turning off unused or not supported programs.SIMS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! ! ! !!!!! ! ! ! !! !?
Ok. Sims works on Windows Vista, but you will need to do something for it to run.

Right-click on the shortcut of the game and click properties, then go to compatibility options and put it in "Windows XP compatibility mode" and check the box "execute as an administrator" or something like that.

If you don't do what I have stated above, the game will never stop finishing loading after you start it. You new Windows Vista computer should not turn off while playing this game.
